Starting last year at the Detroit Grand Prix, seeing Nolan Siegel break down coming to the checkered flag, I knew that it was going to be one of many times this kid was going to have a shot at the top step. Sure enough next day he wins.
Flash forward to season's end, he could've won the season title for Indy NXT, but fell short. The kid was a rookie and nearly took it to the top dogs. Came short of that important scholarship, but Dale Coyne called him for the 2024 season part-time. Again...flash forward to May. It's never a question of IF you'll crash at Indy, but WHEN. Dale Coyne was not prepared for what came on Fast Friday (can't remember exact day) where Nolan met his fate slamming the wall. The team brought a road course backup car. Recipe for disaster.
Nolan gave it his all that day on Bump Day, but lost it coming out of turn 1. He said he wasn't going to go home cause he lifted. Immediately I became a fan of this young man. I said to him this won't be the last time I see you here at Indy. You will bounce back better than ever. And he sure did. Let's move ahead to Le Mans. Rookie year this kid comes out and wins in the LMP2 class. In days where LMP2 has a strong car count in both Le Mans and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, it is no easy feat. And you can guess who owns those cars, Zak Brown.
Two days later Zak Brown offers him a full time IndyCar ride. Finally he gets the top ride he's been looking for. And I will say why he deserves it. He learns fast, he can adapt to a much faster car, he clearly shows pace, and he's willing to put that car in places where it is not built to go (like Indy with not lifting) to go fast. I can already tell you I wish this young man the best of luck.
The man worked his way through the Road To Indy ranks and he is so ready to take on the most important job of his life, and that is to come back to the Brickyard next year with revenge!
