After what was a disastrous month of May for the Young Swede, Tom Blomqvist was sidelined by Mike Shank for the next two races. Helio Castroneves will take over for the 66 at Detroit and Road America. What's next for the IMSA champion is up in the air. A few possibilities do exist though.
One is the rumor mill is stating that Meyer Shank Racing will make it's return to the GTP class in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Who's the driver that will be full time? You guessed it...Tom Blomqvist. It seems as if Meyer Shank took Tom to IndyCar to keep him on the payroll in this IMSA down time. Rumor has it that the team is back with Acura for their GTP program. That's as far as my understanding goes.
Now the question becomes who will take over the 66 full-time? It very well could be that Tom Blomqvist takes over the ride after sitting out two races. Mike Shank never ruled that out. Another great sign-up would be to take David Malukas. That young Lithuanian-American driver has so much talent! The kid is going places and he needs a car capable of reaching his potential. Lastly, Conor Daly. I know he's had more rides than a pay driver, but Conor had a great month of May and he's proven time and time again why he deserves to race.
Who knows what's in store for Meyer Shank in the 66, but I think Tom Blomqvist will have a very happy return to IMSA in 2025.
