When you think about racing in the month of May I hope you're thinking about the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. If you do then you just made a friend. But on Tuesday I ventured out West to Terre Haute for the USAC Wingless Sprint Cars.

A far cry from the glamour and the fame of Indy, but this change of pace was needed after 6 straight days of practice and qualifications. Here's my honest take of the speedway. Right away I liked the laid back atmosphere. At IMS you have to be on edge ready to pounce at anyone that gets in your way when you're trying to shoot a photo. Here on the other hand...everyone was laid back, not in a super rush all the time, and super polite. Everyone respected each other's space. There was also no famous Williams Grove 65 year old man with a scaffolding with a flash on his camera that made you think you're meeting God when it went off. Lastly, one of my favorite things about the speedway, no outside alcohol.

As far as photography goes, nobody gave me a hard time about bringing my 18-105 mm lens and I was able to walk all around the infield from turns 1-4 without interruption. The lighting at night was average...but much better than Sebring Florida.

I have nothing but nice things to say about this racetrack. Obviously it needs money poured in to upgrade it, but it's one Outlaws or High Limit show from doing that.

If you're in town next year for the 500, I highly recommend this place
